New to Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is not painful but can feel intense. Before we begin I will walk you through the process to allay any concerns or fears you might have. I treat a lot of first time patients and without fail they all say, “That was cool” and come back for future treatments.

Not to worry...

Life-long needle-phobics need not fear Acupuncture. The needles used are as thin as a hair and do not feel like the hypodermics encountered at the doctors office. I also use a number of highly effective techniques that do not involve needles. Working together, we will determine what is appropriate for your needs.

Your First Appointment

The initial visit will be approximately 1.5 hours and follow up visits an hour. There will be a detailed inquiry into the nature of the main complaints and past medical history, family medical history and general life experience. After examining the areas involved and discussing the main symptoms, we will discuss a strategy for treatment. This may include dietary, movement (qi gong), and lifestyle recommendations as well as treatment frequency and what to expect from treatment.

The number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient. Factors include the type and severity of disorder, duration of the disorder, lifestyle, compliance, and the patient’s goals. Typically, treatments are given once per week. As the patient improves, visits are spaced out to once every ten days, two weeks, or once a month. When a person is feeling really good I recommend a visit at the change of seasons as a preventative measure, to keep everything running smoothly.

Complementary Medicine

Chinese medicine may certainly be used in conjunction with other medical care. I ask that patients disclose all medications and supplements used so that they may be included in my assessment. As treatment progresses, the need for certain medications often decreases and it may be appropriate to reduce dosages, in coordination with the patients’ physician.

“Though I approached acupuncture with a tremendous amount of skepticism, I have experienced results that have far outshone anything that western medicine has had to offer.” K.B.
